GET TO KNOW THE TEXAS COAST IN A KAYAK
Boaters love to be out on the water. Living in Texas lets us get out there year-round. But while a boat is great for open water and bays, it doesn’t let you access all of the coast. The Gulf coast has a lot of areas that are inaccessible to boats. Kayaks let you explore these places, which are often teeming with fish just waiting to be caught!
Many species of fish prefer tight spots and low water levels. Some even like to burrow in mud and sand. These areas are forbidden to boats, but kayaks can easily navigate them. Their location is also beneficial to anglers. Just like you can’t easily get in, they can’t easily get out. Plus, in a kayak, you’re moving quietly through the water. This lets you get much closer before they realize you’re there. Casting into a school of fish is a lot easier when they’re all pooled in one spot. But that doesn’t mean kayak fishing isn’t a challenge. If you catch a big guy, he may take you for a wild ride!
The Gulf Coast has designated kayak launches all along the shoreline. If you purchase your own, they are low maintenance and inexpensive to own. They’re also space-efficient and easy to transport. Many local businesses rent them as well, so it’s easy to try out!
