One of the best things about living in the Coastal Bend is our great access to fishing and boating. Whether you keep your boat at Boat Stop Storage in Rockport or Corpus Christi, there are multiple places to explore in the area. A great location to start with is Goose Island State Park, along Aransas and St. Charles bays.
At Goose Island, you can enjoy fishing from your own boat using their boat launch. You can also fish from shore or the park’s spectacular 1,620-foot long fishing pier without a permit. Take advantage of the fish cleaning station and picnic areas to enjoy your catch. You can even extend your time at Goose Island by camping in their numbered camping spaces by the bay or shaded by oak trees. The camping sites have water and electricity, as well as restrooms with showers.
Bringing along some extra fishermen or women? Goose Island participates in the state’s Tackle Loaner Program for rods, reels, and tackle boxes. Rentals can be for up to seven days. This handy guide provides lots of fishing tips for Goose Island.
If you have friends or family along who don’t fish, they’ll find plenty to do ashore. Swimming isn’t allowed at Goose Island because of the shoreline’s concrete bulkheads, oyster shells, mud flats, and march grass. However, guests can enjoy hiking, geocaching, and taking pictures of the varied wildlife, especially birds, that call the park home. Goose Island is sure to be a relaxing, entertaining spot for the whole crew!
