FISHING STATUS POST-HARVEY

Many people are anxious to get in some fishing in the Corpus Christi area now that we’re far enough away from Harvey. There are still many areas in the Coastal Bend that are not up and running and in active recovery mode. But communities are slowly moving forward, and the water clarity has been steadily improving. If you’re looking to relax with some fishing, here’s an update on some popular spots in the area.

In the Upper Laguna Madre area, all of the bait stands are running. Fishing has been decent, with redfish and black drum in the canals on Padre Island and redfish on the flats. Along the Intracoastal Waterway near the JFK Causeway, trout are mostly undersized, but flounder are plentiful, especially if you fish along the bottom in sandy areas.

Shortly after Harvey, multiple species of fish could be found along the Packery Channel. The volume has slowed a bit, but redfish, black drum, mangrove snapper, and some trout have been reported in the last week.

Bob Hall Pier sustained minor damage but was quickly back to business as usual. Like many locations, a large number of fish species were reported after Harvey, and that continues at Bob Hall with Spanish and King Mackerel, redfish, pompano, and others reported.

Rockport has had limited activity due to the recovery work from Harvey, but redfish activity has been reported near Traylor Island. Port Aransas also has seen a lot of bull redfish, while amberjack, kingfish, tuna, and dolphin have been active offshore.
